AT&T
During the summer of 2014 I was able to work for AT&T in Dallas, TX. As part of the Technical Development Program Summer Internship I was able to assist with ongoing AT&T projects, as well as meet with and present to senior leaders within the organization.
My main project was to develop an iPad application tasked with facilitating project tracking and forecasting. Each step in a project rollout could be tracked across entire teams and projected completion dates could be forecasted, allowing for more efficient hardware installations.
Near the end of the internship I was given the opportunity to present to the senior vice president of network planning and engineering, Mr. Scott Mair. Myself and a small group of interns were selected to represent our respective groups within the organization.
My summer in Dallas taught me many different skills, both in Engineering and in Business. Some of my key takeaways were:
- Interacting in a corporate environment
- Presenting to senior leadership
- Taking part in business meetings
- Joining and leading virtual tele-presensce meetings
- Applying problem solving strategies to complete given tasks
- Working in a large team of engineers tasked with a large goal
- Gaining a large understanding of cellular technology and innovation
- Learning how to develop software in a corporate environment
- Taking part in large scale hardware and software development
- Visiting cell towers and switching offices
